This is one that has long been expected, but is now finally official: James Hinchcliffe will drive for Newman-Haas Racing for all of the remaining American and Canadian stops on the 2011 IndyCar Series calendar. The 24 year-old native of Oakville, Ontario has been working on this deal for the past several months now.
“I’m extremely excited to be making my IZOD IndyCar Series debut this weekend (in the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, at Barber Motorsports Park),” Hinchcliffe said in a team release. “While I enjoyed being with the team on the pit-wall at St. Petersburg for the opening round, there’s no substitute for being in the car. It’ll be a great moment to take the start in an IndyCar race. It’s always been a goal of mine to race in the series.”
Hinchcliffe finished second in the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights Series championship, notching three victories along the way. Prior to two seasons in FIL, James logged three years in the Atlantic Series, where he won twice.
