Weather A Factor In Pole Day Quals Results

First, it was the wind that played havoc with the established pecking order up & down the IndyCar pit lane, then it was the rain. Pole Day dawned bright and clear, but turned overcast and occasionally quite blustery as the time came to get down to business.

And So It Begins...

The first phase of the  run-up to the 95th Indy 500 began today as seven drivers started their Rookie Orientation Program. This 'Indy only' event gives them one day (the Indy Lights drivers get the track on Friday) to acclimate themselves to the track without having to share it with veteran drivers - and requires them to prove that they can cope with driving at speeds that they likely have never faced before.

Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500, Dallara Automobili has unveiled two full-scale mock-ups of the 2012 spec IndyCar 'Safety Cell', along with their initial ideas of what the oval and road/street course aero kits might look like.

The rains came again, as if on cue, as the IndyCar drivers were making their warm-up laps in preparation for the restart of the Sao Paulo Indy 300. As soon as the green flag flew, everyone dived for the pits (the pit lane enterance is just beyond the start/finsh line) for wet tires.
