... may decide the winner of the 2011 IndyCar Series championship! After several months of ongoing negotiations, INDYCAR is today set to announce that the 2011 season finale will indeed take place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway; the race to be held on October 16.

The event marks the return of AOWR to LVMS after an eleven year absence: the CART series competed at the track from 1996-2000. Former Las Vegas winners Sam Schmidt (now a team owner in Indy Lights) and Al Unser Jr. will join INDYCAR CEO Randy Bernard  and track owner Bruton Smith at the press conference, scheduled for 11am today Las Vegas time.

Schmidt is pleased to see IndyCar - and Firestone Indy Lights, which will also compete during the race weekend - come to the 1.5 mile oval. "Having the race here is huge for us. It makes sense for everybody."
