Franchitti Collects Autosport, BRDC Awards

Dario Franchitti went home to the UK recently to collect a few accolades bestowed upon him there as a result of his second consecutive IndyCar Series championship. The first stop for the Scot was the annual Autosport Awards, which are - at least in part - influenced by fan votes, where he had been selected as the British Competition Driver of the Year.
Also present at the awards was his team boss, Chip Ganassi, who was recognized for the impressive year that was enjoyed across all of his racing outfits, IndyCar, NASCAR and Grand Am.
Then it was on to the British Racing Driver's Club awards, where Franchitti recieved a "special" Gold Star, as well as the Earl Howe trophy, given annually for the "most meritorious performance of the year in North America" by a British driver.
During an interview just prior to the Autosport Awards cerimony, Ganassi had high praise for Franchitti's focus and determination. "How he races at the end of the season is how he races in April, in June, in July. He's a grinder. I used to hate those guys when I raced. He's always there. He always sees every race as a means to winning the championship. He's a championship racer; and winner. That's why he's in my team."
