Power Getting Better On Ovals

After dominating the first stint of street & road courses of the 2010 IndyCar Series season, Will Power has had a respectable but not particularly strong (for a Team Penske driver, anyway) showing through the first three oval events of the season. As a result, he has dropped down to second in the current championship points standings.
During Saturday evening's qualifying for today's Iowa Corn Indy 250, however, the Aussie proved to everyone that he plans to master both disciplines required of a potential IndyCar champion by taking his first ever Oval track pole. He did it with a four lap speed average of 181.337 mph around the 7/8 mile Iowa Speedway, the shortest track on the schedule. “I am very happy to get my first pole on an oval,” he told reporters afterwards “We have been right there the past few races, but I have had some funny things go wrong and a little bit of bad luck. I am very happy with the Verizon car today and our run was solid."
Scott Dixon will start alongside Power on Row One. Row Two will feature Marco Andretti and Helio Castroneves. The top starter among the rookies will be former F1 driver Takuma Sato, who qualified in the seventh spot.
