After a lackluster start to the 2010 IndyCar season, Scott Dixon's hopes for a third series championship got a big boost today as the Kiwi proved to be the class of the field in the Roadrunner Turbo Indy 300. After an early pit stop problem - when a front tire was not properly secured - befell polesitter Ryan Briscoe, Dixon lead over two-thirds of the event, and was never seriously challenged.

“Going into the month of May (at Indianapolis), winning a race is huge for us and our team needed this," he told reporters afterwards. “I just hope we can carry it through.”

Dixon's Ganassi Racing teammate Dario Franchitti would finish in second, but admitted that he didn't have anything for Scott in the closing laps. Positions three through six alternated between the Andretti and Penske stables, in the following order: Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Ryan Briscoe.

Will Power, who was the driver to beat during the season opening stint of four road/street courses, would only manage to come home in 12th, but that was good enough to keep his championship lead as the series heads to Indianapolis for the Memorial Day weekend classic.

There were three drivers - Sato, de Silvestro and Baguette - for whom Kansas was their first ever oval race - in any sort of car! All handled the experience well: especially Sato, who ran in the top ten for most of the race, until he was taken out by his fellow counrtyman Hideki Mutoh as he tried to squeeze his car between Sato's and de Silvestro's.
