Qualifying Postponed Until This Morning

Qualifying for the opening round of the 2010 IndyCar Series was scrubbed yesterday due to an unforseen issue with the Sao Paulo track, which is a new venue to the circut. It seems that the concrete surface of Sambodrome section, where the start/finish line is, was too slick for the cars to find adequate traction.

Comming to this part of the track after a hairpin at turn 11, the drivers' natural instinct is to put lay the power on and 'blast' through to the turns 1-4 complex, but this was causing alot a 'fish-tailing' - and a few wall-bangers, in the practice sessions.

The IRL, after consultation with track officals and race promoters, decided to bring grinding equipment in overnight to 'rough up' the concrete so that the tires would be able to lay rubber down, thus giving the cars much needed traction.

Qualifications will take place at 8:30am ET today, with the race still scheduled to go off at noon.
