They're Back!

Racer.com is reporting that Lotus has confirmed that they will be entering into a partnership with an exsisting IndyCar Series team (which one has not yet been disclosed, but look for it to be KVRT) under the 'Team Lotus USA' banner. The move is believed to be the English auto maker's first move in an attempt to have a seat at the table when the 2012 spec change takes effect.
Lotus, who recently entered into a partnership with Cosworth, is thought to be angling for an engine supply contract when the spec change happens. Cosworth-built Lotus engines are based on Toyota's V6 design. Given the current absence of any four cylinder alternatives, the IRL will certianly acquiesce to Honda's desire to run V6 powerplants come 2012; which should play into Lotus' plans very nicely.
Ford-powered Lotus cars competed at the Indianapolis 500 between 1963 and 1969, winning the race in 1965 with the late F1 champion Jim Clark behind the wheel.
Team Lotus USA has no links to the new F1 squad.
