Something To Keep In Mind Here...

The IndyCar fan backlash against the Delta Wing concept car has been pretty strong since it's public unveiling last week. The shock of something so radically different from a traditional open-wheel car is, apparently, too much for most to stomach. If the IRL is inclined to listen to it's fan base, then the car is pretty much dead on arrival - at least in it's present configuration.

It must be kept in mind that the model unveiled at the Chicgo auto show is only a preliminary design: And therein lies Delta Wing LLC's chance to yet make their case.

One fan of the series who doesn't care for the current model either but understands the need for 'fresh thinking' from which it sprang has already began to design his own variations of the initial concept as a way of reminding folks that the Delta Wing is still a work in progress.

He goes by the name 'stpwildcat' on the TrackForum.com forum board. A design engineer for one of the American auto companies by day (beyond that, he wishes to keep his identity secret), he says that he feels that Ben Bowlby's general concept is sound; it just needs some tweaking to gain the fans approval. "I feel this concept is the last hope of our series," he says. "Fans need to see that the concept of the DeltaWing is brilliant." 

Here is his first attempt at making the Delta Wing more palatable. Intitial reviews are that it is a marked improvement over the original. He plans to release six more variations in the uncomming weeks.
