Thinking About IndyCar?

One of racing's most iconic brand names is mulling over several new racing ventures, and one of them might just prove to be the IndyCar Series. In a recent media statement, the new CEO of Lotus Group, Dany Bahar told reporters; "We will investigate participation in Indy[C]ar series, GT and Le Mans racing amongst other series around the globe to demonstrate the shared technology."

It is, of course, far too early to tell if anything much will come of this statement as of yet, but the mere prospect is exciting nonetheless. The Lotus name has a storied history in the annals of what we now call the IndyCar Series. In the mid-to-late '60s, Ford-powered Lotus cars helped to usher in the rear-engine age in Indy racing (there had been an unsuccessful attempt in the late '30s by legendary car designer Harry Miller to build a competitive rear-rengine chassis), winning the 1965 Indianapolis 500 with F1 great Jim Clark behind the wheel.  

It is worth noting that, should any of this actually come to fruition, it will apparently be fully independent of the new Lotus F1 squad, to will be primarily run by Malaysia's Proton, which owns Lotus.
