More Seat Time

Two of the "one-off" drivers that were at Indianapolis last weekend have managed to land deals for this weekend's race at Milwaukee, and both men have the potential to get a ride in other events yet this season. They are Paul Tracy and Tomas Scheckter, two of the IndyCar Series' most "colorful" characters.

Scheckter (pictured) will drive the #23 car for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. D&R has already split the seat time in that car between Darren Manning & Milka Duno this year, & has committed to put Roger Yasukawa in it come the race at Motegi. "We are excited to have Tomas join our team," team co-owner Dennis Reinbold said. "We have talked to him on a number of occasions about doing something together and this opportunity came up to pair him with Mike (Conway, driver of the #24 car) for the weekend. We feel like we are going into Milwaukee very strong as a team." 

Scheckter finished an impressive 12th in the Indy 500 in a "one-off" effort for Dale Coyne Racing, normally a backmarker outfit.

The other man back in the saddle this weekend is Paul Tracy, who will replace the injured Vitor Meira at AJ Foyt Enterprises. Tracy is already under contract with KVRT, for whom he drove at Indy, for the two Canadian rounds of the 2009 season, but might yet be tabbed by Foyt to fill in for the balance of the year with them. Meira broke two lower vertebrae in a crash at Indy, & might not be ready to drive again until 2010.
