Mission Accomplished

Scuderia Toro Rosso wrapped up the final two days of the first pre-season tests at Barcelona with Jean-Eric Vergne behind the wheel of the STR7. The Frenchman put the car through an extensive battery of aero set-up and tire tests while also gaining valuable experince with F1-style pit stops; something brand new to him.

Vergne would log 78 laps on Day Three, and a further 92 laps on Day Four. His best lap time would be a 1:23.792, which he posted on Day 4.

STR's Chief Engineer, Laurent Mekies, would declared himself to be satisfied with what both Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo accomplished over the four day tests, saying;  "We achieved what we came here to do." While noting that the nature of evaluating different set-ups was "time consuming" and kept the total lap count low, he felt that "it was important to get the answers on the items that we wanted to evaluate here."

He also believes that; "The drivers are getting into the rythm" of testing so that next week, when they work on race simulation runs, they will be up to the task.
