The "rumor mill" has recently began talking up the idea of young BMW test driver Sebastien Vettel finding a race seat with Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2008. Now that Nick Heidfeld's future with BMW is looking fairly secure, the press is asking both Team Principles if such discussions are indeed taking place.
While being (typically) gaurded in their responses, neither Mario Theissen or Gerhard Berger ruled out the possibility. "I know that Sebastian is looking for a place to race and that we could be an interesting place for him to come," Berger is quoted as saying by Sport-Informations-Dienst. "But so far we have held no concrete conversations with him."
Theissen, meanwhile, told Blickpunkt Sport late on Monday that 'loaning' Vettel to another team for a year or two is a "conceivable scenario", noting that: "Sebastian's disadvantage compared to Heidfeld and Kubica is obviously his missing race experience."
Vettel is in a unique - and possibly contentious - position of being contracted to both BMW and Red Bull, with both outfits claiming that their agreement has precident over the other one.
