Well, at least now we know half of the line-up. At a low key press conference today, Scuderia Toro Rosso announced at Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi will be returning in 2007 as one of their two race drivers.
Team co-owner Gerhard Berger was happy to have Tonio back in the fold. "We analysed our drivers very well after last season and found their strengths and weaknesses quite well," Berger told Reuters. "We worked very hard together over the winter, especially with Tonio. He's going to make less mistakes in the second season, I think he's also working harder than in the first one so he's going to be better. But you're not going to see miracles because they just don't exist in Formula One."
As for the identity of the second driver, Berger repeated his stance that American driver Scott Speed is still his top choice, but said that contract negotiations are still ongoing. There were no announcements regarding any test drivers at the press conference either.
Tonio is scheduled to take the brand new STR2 out for it's first laps later today. STR is reportedly still working hurridly on completeing the car: rumors are that they were having just completed parts flown in to the track over the past few days! Berger promises that the STR2 will not be a carbon copy of the RB3 in appearance. "It's definitely not the same car," said Berger. "It's very easy to see that. It's not just the engine, a lot of stuff is different."
I'll post some pictures as soon as I can find them so that you can judge for yourselves.
