Berger: "The FIA will approve our car"

Scuderia Toro Rosso is moving ahead with plans to use a chassis that will essentially be a derivative of the Adrian Newey-designed RB3, modified to fit the Ferrari powerplant. Team co-owner Gerhard Berger is confident that STR is operating within the bounderies of the FIA's 2007 F1 regulations.

The STR2 is being built by Red Bull Technologies, a company that is independant of both STR and RBR and, as such, is not a signatory of the Concorde Agreement. STR and RBR believe that this fact leaves it free to supply car designs and parts to multiple teams.

"We are confident the FIA will approve our car" Berger recently stated. "The STR2 will be built by Red Bull Technologies, and Toro Rosso will fully own the intellectual rights of the car." Speaking to the efforts, headed up by Spkyer, to prohibit what they see view as a violation of the rules, he added: "Of course every team interprets the FIA rules through their own glasses."

At the moment, the team does not expect the STR2 to be ready for testing until early February, so it has no plans to participate in any of the January testing sessions.
