Departed Lucky Strike BAR Honda team principal David Richards has been rewarded for his work at Prodrive and BAR with a CBE in the New Year Honours list for services to Motor Sport.

Richards now joins McLaren's Ron Dennis and Williams' Frank Williams on the honoured category, with Dennis getting a CBE back in 2000. Frank Williams gained a CBE in 1986, but went on to better that by receiving a knighthood in 1999 to become Sir Frank.

The CBE was instituted by George V back in 1917 to recognise all levels of service to the country during the first 'total' war, and has evolved to embrace service and achievement in all fields.
