A stunning display from the whole team at Lucky Strike BAR Honda saw Jenson Button scoring not only his first ever pole position, but also the very first for the team.
Following on from two podium finishes, the team have been working flat out to find further pace in the BAR 006 chassis, with aerodynamic and engine improvements for the San Marino Grand Prix. It all came good today, with Jenson Button outperforming the thus far dominant Michael Schumacher in his Ferrari.
Team mate Takuma Sato finished a disappointing seventh, 1.160 seconds behind the pole sitter.
It took Nigel Mansell 72 races to score his first Grand Prix win. How many more before Jenson gets his?
