The rule changes introduced at the beginning of the season certainly extended the championship battle, and mixed up the grid at a few rounds, but did they really work, or would we still be in the same situation under the old rules?

British magazine Autosport asked each team principal for their thoughts, including Lucky Strike BAR Honda chief David Richards.

"You can always criticise elements of it, but we've had a great season," said David. "You measure it by the interest in the sport. We've returned to the fans some of the excitement that's been missing in the past few years. But there's a great danger in chopping and changing every five minutes. We need to be consistent.

"The minor changes for next year are a very valid step in the right direction," he continued. "You can always speculate that if nothing had changed, would we still have the same results? And there's a large school of thought that thinks that might have been the case. But, nevertheless, we had the rule changes, we had the fantastic results that we've had this year and I'm sure that next year will be equally exciting. The extra points are good at both ends of the grid."
