Talking to German magazine Blick, Renault boss Flavio Briatore has poured cold water on any suggestion of former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve joining Renault.

The Canadian, whose contract with BAR runs out at the end of this season has been linked with a number of teams, including Renault, though his financial demands and baggage (in the form of manager Craig Pollock) are said to be seriously limiting his options.

"I don't want Villeneuve," said Briatore, "even if he offers to drive for Renault for free.

"I've got good drivers, who work hard and show respect," continued the Italian. "I don't want a star driver who doesn't show respect to people. And besides, he's not that fast.

"We prepare for the future with stars of the future," he added.
