Seven times World Champion Michael Schumacher is understood to have flown in to London Luton airport this morning, before making his way to Brackley to be announced as a Mercedes GP driver in 2010.

We understand an announcement is due within an hour of writing this article, sometime before 11:00am GMT.

It is our belief that Schumacher has signed a one year deal with a further two years of options on both sides, meaning the legendary driver could conceivably remain in Formula One until 2012.

Schumacher has a long history with Mercedes, although not within F1. He raced with the Mercedes junior racing programme in the World Sports Prototype Championship, winning multiple races whilst also competing in German formula Three and F1. His last Mercedes win was the Japanese race at Autopolis on 28 October 1991.

Mercedes then funded Schumacher's early F1 career, before he moved to Benetton and Ferrari, taking his seven world titles on the way.
