Both Williams drivers would set times but it would be the Mercedes pair that
you be quickest with a 1m:17.771 from Bottas with Hamilton second. Leclerc
and Vettel would follow but Bottas would improve with a 1m:14.240 followed
by Hamilton, Vettel, Leclerc, Hulkenberg and Ricciardo. The Williams drivers
were in 7th and 8th. Hamilton would go quickest with a 1m:13.636 from Bottas
and Leclerc. Ricciardo was now fourth. With fifteen minutes completed the
Williams drivers were 10th and 11th. The pair would drop to 14th and 16th as
the session progressed. Magnussen was now in fifth followed by Gasly. But
Verstappen would move into sixth followed by Hulkenberg and Gasly.
Verstappen would improve to fourth with Albon fifth followed by Hulkenberg
and Ricciardo. Hamilton would set a stunning time of 1m:12.932 to increase
his lead over Bottas. Gasly was able to move ahead of the Renault's now
sixth ahead of Kvyat, Hulkenberg and Ricciardo. Verstappen would move into
second splitting the Mercedes. Both Haas cars had been blacked flag early in
the session due to a radio issue. Vettel was down in 11th as the track
emptied as drivers came back in to return their set of Pirelli tyres.
The Ferrari's would be amongst the first cars to return. Bottas would set a
1m:12.818 to go fastest but Hamilton would improve with a 1m:12.422 to
return to the top pf the times. Vettel was third followed by Leclerc and
Vettel. Bottas would return to the top with a 1m:12.248.A 1m:12.106 from
Hamilton followed still by Bottas, Leclerc and Vettel. For Williams their
drivers were in 16th and 17th with both drivers pitting after their second
runs. Robert had a small spin and had pitted for his car to be checked out.
More drivers would start to run on different tyres with both Toro Rosso cars
on the medium tyre. With under thirty minutes remaining both Williams
drivers were in their pits.
The top ten was Hamilton followed by Bottas, Leclerc, Verstappen, Vettel,
Gasly, Raikkonen, Ricciardo, and Giovinazzi in tenth. Both Racing Point had
been running on the hard tyre but with twenty minutes remaining only the top
three were running. Verstappen was now second with a 1m:12.165. The Williams
drivers were now in 17th and 18th with George ahead of Robert by 0.3s. they
would remain in those positions with the end of the session. The top ten was
Hamilton from Verstappen, Bottas, Leclerc, Vettel, Gasly, Hulkenberg,
Magnussen, Raikkonen and Grosjean. For the first time the Williams team
could say that they were officially not last.
Robert would follow team-mate George out also using the soft tyre. Robert
would set a 1m:22.956. Robert would put in a series of laps and would set a
1m:19.093 to be ahead of his team-mate. But Robert would set a 1m:17.792 to
remain quicker of the Williams drivers. Robert was also finding time setting
a 1m:17.020 to be just fractions behind George. Robert was able to set a
1m:16.398 to move into 11th. he would drop to 15th prior to pitting after a
14 lap run. But like his team-mate he would return on a new set of tyres.
Robert would follow his team-mate out for his second run. Robert would
improve with a 1m:15.914 to be in 16th. Further improvement with a 1m:15.514
closing the agp to George to just 0.399. A spin from Robert but he would
keep it off the barriers making the smallest of contact returning to his pit
to be checked out. He had completed seven laps. With the end of the session
Robert would not returning possible due to an issue with his car after
making that contact with the barrier.
George would be out first in the opening practice session running on the
soft tyre. George would go straight for a time with a 1m:25.394. His next
lap would see a 1m:21.736. An improved time of 1m:20.531 from George but he
would improve with a 1m:19.265. A 1m:18.671 from George but he was still
behind Robert. An improved 1m:17.525 from George to move ahead of his
team-mate. A further improvement of 1m:17.016 would see George 8th. A
1m:16.770 as George dialled himself into the circuit. George would pit
taking on a new set of soft tyres currently in 17th. Waiting in the pits
George would drop to 19th and would return for his next run.
George would also find time with a 1m:15.115 to move in 16th. George would
pit after a ten lap run. George would return on new soft tyres but would
again return to the pits. Just under twenty minutes and George would return
remaining on the soft tyre. He would continue to lap the circuit remaining
in 17th. He would complete his longer run on the soft tyre pitting after an
eight lap run. George would return to complete a practice start on the grid.
