Even though he was unable to take part in the second half of this morning’s free practice session, after he spun in the final moments of the first half, Rubens Barrichello managed to qualify third on the grid. He lines up right behind team-mate Michael Schumacher and his brother Ralf.

“I prefer to be third rather than second. Starting second could be worse because that side of the track is more dirty and getting off the line cleanly will be very important on this track,” said Rubens. “I am happy with the work the team did on my car. The car was perfect after this morning’s accident and so the time I lost did not cost me much. I had to work hard though on finding the limit again, but the car responded very well right from the first run and I hardly had to make any changes to the car. I was very close to pole but on my last run I overdid it a bit as I was pushing very hard.”

“However, I am confident for tomorrow’s race. We have a fantastic car and I will try my very best as usual. I hope the race will be fun and spectacular for everyone,” continued the Brazilian. “This is now a track where you always have to be on the limit to go well, but where at the same time, you have to be careful as it is easy to make a mistake, so you have to find the right compromise. The F3000 race could throw up a few indications as to where it will be possible to overtake.”
