After another domination in the last race at Silverstone Ferrari are super confident of more of the same in France. After a very healthy week of testing that saw a new track record set at Fiorano the Scuderia are supremely confident that they will be leading the way once more at the Magny-Cours circuit.
Last season and Ferrari ran well at this circuit, finishing the race in first and third with Michael Schumacher winning his 50th career win. The 1-2 was spoiled by the Williams of Ralf Schumacher and it will be the Williams team who are once again the main threat to Ferrari this time round. With it being Michelin’s home race they will be hoping to get the upperhand over the superior Bridgestone’s, so they better pray it does not rain!
However the Ferrari F2002 has shown no weakness on any track this season and this will be the case once more next weekend. If all things go to plan for Michael Schumacher then he could be crowned the 2002 world champion, for Michael to achieve such a remarkable feat he will need to win the race and hope that both Rubens Barrichello and Ralf Schumacher finish below second place. The Schumacher win is highly likely but so too is a Barrichello second place so the title party for Schumacher is more likely to occur in Germany.
Ferrari have told us that they are now working 100% on the F2003 and development of the F2002 is finished such is their advantage over the rest, but this has not stopped the car from improving further as Schumacher proved on Friday at Fiorano as he shattered the track record by nearly 1 second.
So it’s a confident and focused Ferrari team that heads to France. Michael Schumacher is looking to secure the title and Rubens Barrichello is aiming to cement his second place in the title standings as well as putting off the Schumacher party, so don’t be surprised to see another Ferrari 1-2 with Michael and Rubens battling for the win!
