The Silverstone weekend has been one of the best for Ferrari in this already amazing season for the Scuderia. What with the crowds baying for then to lose, the 1-2 victory on our rivals home turf was even sweeter.

Right from Friday the F2002 was showing its class in the wet and in the dry on Saturday it was also supreme. The only let down and a small one at that was the point that we never secured pole position once again, but as for the other three races prior to this then we can attach this fact down to the tyres. Where Michelin clearly have a superior 1 lap tyre than Bridgestone but with the tyres being so good in the race then pole is not really a major issue to Ferrari, with the F2002 so great in race trim and the team having two of the best overtakers on the grid then Sunday’s are no major concern for the team.
As Rubens Barrichello showed Ferrari could line up 21st and 22nd and still take care of the rest and win the race, qualifying is a mere sideshow to the main event on a Sunday for Ferrari these days. So the race was probably the best of the season so far the rain coming down really added everything you could want from an F1 race. Pitstop mayhem was all around Silverstone and mostly at McLaren who before the race has been talking about their brilliant pitstops and strategy so maybe they got fat too cocky at this event. How many times have we seen it rain and Coulthard plods around on slicks as the rest pit for wets? You would think they would have learned how to manage a crucial stop when the rain arrives, but once again they made themselves look silly.
Had the rain not arrived then it was all set for a good battle between Michael Schumacher and Montoya who was holding his position quite well, but just as the rain arrived you could sense the Colombian was beginning to struggle and the Schumacher pass was destined to arrive sooner or later. Once it got wet then the race with for the rainmaster was never in doubt, his car control in such conditions is awesome and no other driver can compete with him on tracks that are damp and slippery.
Rubens Barrichello drove another outstanding race after stalling on the grid he wasted no time in making up the places and his second place was just right for the Brazilian who would be happy with such a great performance.
So now if results fall in to place then Schumacher can be champion in France, but it looks more realistic to look for the title to be won in Germany and what a great place for Michael to do such a feat. With work on the F2003 already well underway and the F2002 being able to dominate things are only getting better for Ferrari. It is a nice compliment that the F2002 design is being copied up and down the grid, most noticeable is the Williams chassis, which is becoming more and more like the Rory Byrne designed car at every race.
