After losing the morning session after an early spin Michael Schumacher was quickly onto the track as the second hour long session got underway. Schumacher done a series of laps that would see him go into eleventh position. The track is still very wet and once again all drivers are having to be wary of the very slippery conditions.

After a brief visit to the pits the world champion is back out on track and continues to improve on his best time, the German moves into sixth with a lap of 1m 35.496 seconds, which is nearly 2 seconds slower than the fastest lap of the day so far set by Rubens Barrichello. Barrichello himself is soon to join in the action and he goes faster once more with a 1.31.295 and with that Schumacher is also on the move going second fastest a 1.32.221 for the German.

Schumacher however continues to lap as he gets the feel of the level of grip and he closed in on Barrichello’s time once more with a 1.32.167. And before long it is the Ferrari no1 who tops the timesheets as he puts in the fastest lap so far of the weekend a 1.31.881 for the reigning world champion, showing that is early spin has not affected his weekend in the slightest.

But Barrichello was not finished for the day and on his next run he moved back into the top slot with a lap of 1.31.457 and once again showing Michael that he wont be having it easy this weekend. Both Ferrari’s are now about 2 seconds clear of the chasing pack, with Fisichella in the Jordan being the closest in third place. And that was basically it for the Friday practice. Ferrari will be pleased with the performance of the cars in the wet and very happy with the Bridgestone performance, but they will know the weekend has only just begun.
