The FIA hearing held in Paris this morning has punished Ferrari and both drivers for breaking podium protocol when Michael Schumacher allowed Rubens Barrichello to take the winners position on the rostrum.

The FIA have fined the team and both drivers a total of one million dollars with no point reduction and no race ban.

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) conceded "with some reluctance" that it could not fine the team for allowing Schumacher to win in such blatant circumstances.

But it said Ferrari and its drivers had failed to "observe podium procedures" while Schumacher had embarrassed the Austrian Chancellor during the trophy presentation.

"Schumacher took the trophy for first place from the Austrian Chancellor, did not acknowledge him, handed the trophy to Rubens Barrichello and then took the second place trophy from the Austrian Deputy Chancellor," FIA said in a statement.

Half of the million dollars is to be paid instantly to the FIA and the other half is to be held suspended for 12 months, meaning that if Ferrari drivers do not break the podium rules again in this period then the fine will remain at $500,000.
