Grey is the predominant colour this morning at the Indianapolis circuit, as heavy rain last night has weakened but is still falling on the famous oval. For the spectators who have braved the elements for the first day of free practice for Sunday’s United States GP, the weather will add some novelty value. This is because the Indycars which usually race here to do not go out in the rain and the locals are always amazed that the F1 boys race in all weathers.
Despite the wet track, all the teams will be keen to get out and start set-up work when the first session starts at 11, as none of the teams are allowed to test here. The rain is expected to stop at around noon and the forecast for the next two days is better with dry if overcast conditions. If it is dry this afternoon, then Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello will naturally start work on finding the best set-up as well as evaluating the two types of dry weather tyre Bridgestone has brought for the American race: these include one completely new specification and one which has been raced before, earlier in the year.
