Five times world champion Michael Schumacher has hit out at those who say Ferrari are making the sport boring. Schumacher has won 10 races along with Barrichello’s 3 in a season dominated by Ferrari, but that is not the true picture says Michael.

It seems fashionable these days to blame the decline on viewing figures and track attendance’s on the Ferrari team. Constant comments in the media from all sorts of people point the finger at Ferrari’s dominance as the reason for the fall in F1 viewers. But Michael Schumacher has hit out at those critics and insists that F1 is not boring and every Ferrari win is worked for and is won on merit.
"I know its fashionable to talk about 'Formula yawn' and about Ferrari ruining Formula One with all its wins I can only say that this view is far too superficial,” said Schumacher. “The fact is that we have to fight for our victories. We can’t just win whenever we please, just stroll through. I have not gone to a race once this season feeling confident of a win. And only that would be true dominance."
Blaming Ferrari is nothing new to fans of our team, from spending too much to using team orders the finger of blame is always pointing at Ferrari. But the fact is that viewing figures are down thanks to Ferrari having no real raceday competition. On our rivals forums we have seen Williams fans crying out for Ferrari to race till the finish, well we Tifosi are crying out for Williams to last to the finish and push us all the way (or a McLaren, or Renault, or whoever).
F1 is suffering not because Ferrari are setting the pace, but because the pace they are setting is far superior than anyone can match at this moment. Hopefully 2003 will see some sort of sustained pressure on Ferrari and we can see closer racing, but don’t expect Ferrari to slow down to let them catch up!
