With the new podium taking the drivers to the fans Rubens Barrichello was overwhelmed by the emotion of it all. The pit straight was full of fans as far as the eye could see and being on the top step was something special for Rubens.

“I can’t find the words to express my feelings after winning and celebrating the victory on the podium in front of a huge crowd cheering us,” said Rubens Barrichello. “If I could, I would have hugged all the fans! The crowd was cheering all the way to the first chicane. I am happy because this repays the fans for all their support.”

The new podium was given a massive seal of approval by all comments and for Rubens it was just perfect for him that he was the first one to take the top position here. After seeing the new podium in testing he had dreamed of being on it come race weekend.

“It is simply fantastic,” said the Brazilian. “I had already seen it when I came for the Monza test last week and I thought at the time that it would be great to be on it, hopefully on the top step. Doing it is like a dream come true.”

The whole team was delighted with the Barrichello win and he was equally pleased with their work over the weekend. Rubens knew the 2 stop strategy had some elements of risk to in but thankfully it worked out as planned and he was able to push all the way.

“I am proud of my mechanics, my engineers, the technicians and the entire team,” commented Barrichello. “I am really happy because this win reminds me of the one at Hockenheim. It was not an easy race and I pushed to the maximum right up to the second pit stop. My strategy was risky and I did not know how it would work out. Going for one stop could have seen him stuck behind. I agreed this choice with Ross and I’m glad it paid off.”

“I dedicate this win to my son, who will be one year old next week,” concluded Barrichello. “This win makes me a bit more optimistic about taking second place in the Drivers’s classification, but today I just want to think about the win and enjoy it fully.”
