Rubens Barrichello left Spa feeling positive about the outcome of this weekend. The Brazilian driver has struggled with the set-up of this F2002 from the beginning of the race weekend and was thankful to take a valuable six points for himself and the team. Rubens had opted for the harder tyre and on reflection he admits it was the wrong choice to make. Barrichello would have liked to have won but admits nobody was going to stop Michael Schumacher from taking the win at Spa.
“I managed to get past Raikkonen at the start, which was a good thing as I had been wondering how quick he might have been,” explained the Brazilian. “Overall, the weekend was good and I managed to increase my advantage in the Drivers’ Championship, despite having had trouble finding the right set-up through the weekend. We made a lot of changes and I ended up making a different tyre choice to Michael and his was the better one. Of course, winning would have been better for my championship position, but Michael was very strong all weekend and he was unbeatable today. He deserved the win.”
Ferrari have now taken twelve wins and six of them are 1-2 finishes and Barrichello was happy to praise the team for a fantastic season and for given them a brilliant car to drive. “I reckon we have done a great job this year,” commented the Brazilian. “The car is impressive and we are just here to drive it.” Barrichello is now looking forward to Monza in a fortnight’s time and he would love nothing more than to win on Ferrari’s home soil!
