Newcastle United v Everton Review

Newcastle's aim of mid-table mediocrity was shown to be very optimistic by Everton who were threatened with relegation before the game.Everton mentally won the game after the first goal as we lost all confidence in winning.
Fabricio Coloccini's red card summed up the performance as the captain launching a stupid and dangerous challenge to effectively end the contest. United were already trailing two goals from James McCarthy and Romelu Lukaku that were gifted by big mistakes from Tim Krul and Yoan Gouffran.
United who gave a poor team performance by the silver-clad Magpies had allowed Everton to build up their shaky confidence, inviting the Merseysiders to run through with ease. Carver's side could have been in front as early as the third minute when a corner was cleared to Gabriel Obertan and his fierce shot was beaten out by Tim Howard.
The three-goal defeat and the three match ban for Coloccini will do little to ease Carver's defensive headaches and with his captain missing for the visit of Arsenal, the derby game and another trip to Goodison Park, the struggle to the end of the season continues.
