Bernie dismiss Luca's threat of F1 breakaway

Bernie Ecclestone has dismissed Ferrari President, Luca di Montezemolo's threat of F1 series breakaway in 2013 as "complete nonsense".
According to the Telegraph correspondent Tom Cary who attended Thursday’s media dinner with Montezemolo, said the 63-year-old likens F1 at present to a “prison”.
“We are at a crossroads,” said Montezemolo. He said, a possible three scenarios - the status quo, new owners for the sport with Bernie Ecclestone in charge, or a model like “the NBA” (the America’s premier basketball league is owned by the teams).
“In the end we can always find a different promoter. At the end of the day this business is not so complicated.”
He said, once the current Concorde Agreement expires at the end of 2012, if F1 doesn't share more of its revenue it will lose its major players.
Bernie responded to this by saying, “It’s what he says every time he goes to Monza (Maranello) every year - ‘We need more money." He was speaking to Reuters news agency.
“They’re not going to break away,” he insisted. “They’ve tried it all before. Luca’s a lovely guy but he likes to say these things and then he forgets what he is saying.”
Montezemolo also said that he was no fan of the new four-cylinder engine formula for 2013. Speaking to the Spanish newspaper El Pais he said “Ferrari will never make (road) cars with four cylinders."
“(And) what they (FIA) want to do is cut costs, but all they do is raise them if the rules change every five minutes. This is formula one, which should be the spearhead of technological development.”

As far as the engine issue, I think a Small Displacement V6 would been a better solution in bridging the gap between the currently bigger V8's and the rather small 4 cylinder machines, as a tool for the Manufacturers to market in their road cars. It will be harder for them to find commonality between their showroom products and the 4 cylinder Formula One engines. In Ferrari's case they will have to show their showroom engine as directly using the features of their F1 Engine and bill their engines as two or three F1 4 cylinder engines fused together to form their road car engines. This will sell just fine. It is the carry over technology and features from the F1 Engines that is most important to car buyers.
Formula One and the Manufacturers will do just fine in the end. It is about thrilling racing on the track and good follow up marketing on Monday to keep the Manufacturers strong in sales.
Forza Ferrari!!!!
For the amount of times he brings it up, it's amazing he's never had the balls to actually do it though.
ferrari are 5hit scared of coming last on a level playing field. So pi55 off ferrari to your breakaway series that only die hard ferrari fans will watch and let the rest of us get on with it.
100% behind bernie on this one, Its always ferrari crying and spearheading this 8ull5hit breakaway, well f.uck off then because after a couple of years we will all have forgotten about you.
No team or person is bigger than any sport, so maybe ferrari are actually holding F1 back with thier big club blackmailing mentality.

Going to bed so before you all start on me let me read that post again tomorrow when i am sobber

I don't understand why your both negative toward Luca???? Yes he has been the "Spearhead" time and time again to push for more money for ALL of the teams! Not just Ferrari. Let him make noise and let the negotiate a better deal. That is the normal process in all Business! You guy talk like he is doing something very bad. You both very wrong on this account. This is how the Financial world works. When the opportunity presents itself for a new, better deal, you seize the moment. That is all he is doing. You can't fault him for that. He is Spearheading the move because Ferrari still holds the most clout in Formula One. Case Closed!
Forza Ferrari!!!!
Modern F1 would soon forget all about ferrari,a fizzy pop company can win the damn thing now, so adios Ferrari and good luck in your breakaway series that only ferrari fans will watch.

Formula One is a Public Sport and casting doubt on the sport's future can have people enthused for a racing series not so "Controled" having a free hand at Higher Technology like in the old days. That is Luca's fight! As far as Ferrari not being important to the survival of Formula One, your British and a racing series of British racing team suits you and most British fans just fine but we in the rest of the world do not care much to watch that at all!
Formula One without Ferrari would lose about half the fans base of the sport. Certainly if Luca was to start a new series with much different, higher technology then F1 it would be only a matter of time when people walk away from F1! Just look at our Indy Car series as case in point! CART failed because the guts of the series were lost to Indy Car and they folded! Formula One would be no different if a new series was launched if certain key teams were to join!
I think your argument is bias, again and ill thought out.
Forza Ferrari!!!!
Good on bernie for calling ferraris bluff i say. Let them pi55 orf and the rest of us can get on with it.

Sounds like a totally differnt person is writing on your post. I did not say Ferrari is bigger than Formula One. All I said was if Ferrari was to leave Formula One, half the sport would be gone as well. Certainly it is clear that at least 40% to 50% of Formula One fans are Ferrari Fans. Why are you so against the Teams receiving more for participating by spending huge sums of money to compete in the sport??? Your response is very odd and difficult to understand. Explain??? Luca is seeking more for the participating teams. Is that a bad thing???? They are the ones at risk and they are the one that have the struggle to survive in Formula One.
Forza Ferrari!!!!
I think you should read what Ron Dennis said regarding F1 & Bernie E on "Pitpass". Take a look it is a very good read.
Forza Ferrari!!!!
Anyway i am not saying the money should not be shared out better, but i am against the tactics used, making threats is no way of negotiating anything.
I bet F1 would still be more popular than any break away series.

Frank, Luca, has been moaning about this every two years, yet he never does it. It's time to either do it or shut up.
How about Ferrari share the extra £100m they get shared between the other teams.
People look down on him, because as HGW says, he methods are no better than the @#$%& Santandar payed him to employ.
Yep, which is why i back bernie calling their bluff.........again.......and again........and again.....
How about Ferrari share the extra £100m they get shared between the other teams.
And their is my point, ferrari do not know the meaning of a level playing field, so if playing the game without them makes it so then fair do's lets give it a go i say, enjoy your breakaway series because you will have to and the rest of us will be watching f1, yesah lets all have more money as long as we still get the most
f.ucking pathetic that is its called big club syndrone.
Long live F1....with or without the sport biggest team times are changing and bernie etc know this, its time ferrari wised up.

Forza Ferrari!!!!
He'll keep quiet for another two years and bring it up again.
Instead of headline grabbing for once they should consider keeping their mouths shut and concentrate on next season. Alonso is already setting himself up for a fall.
His comments about the rules will help Ferrari and stop other teams. You would have thought he'd learn to shut the hell up.
Well last time around Luca and the rest of Formula One was able to get a fairly large increase. So last time it was not nought. They reaped the best they could have hoped for last time around. We are still a year away so much can happen between now and then. As far as Alonso is concerned, I would say Ferrari proved very capable of making a winning race car in the second half this year. If Ferrari does what they hope to do, they will be fast again out of the box and certainly have the ability to carry the march, as the Brits say. I will say again that Ferrari have the people to produce a winning race car. I am hoping for a season like 2004 for the Ferrari Team!
Foza Ferrari!!!!
Luca is playing business, just like Bernie plays his, and both plays it quite well.
If Ferrari gets the money, so do other teams, and the Frank is right, as last time the teams did rally together and got a bigger pie.
No team is bigger than the sport, but it's the bigger team's actions that would ruffle some feathers in the top management of the sport, as otherwise bernie and team would just eat away whatever profit the sport make.
I don't expect williams to make such threat, as bernie would just laught it off.
No one really wants to quit f1, but bernie won't budge until a drastic step or threat is used.
teams make the sports, and they have every right to claim a part of the profit made. Bernie doesn't care about any team whether it's mclaren or williams, and hence top teams should come together once in a while to show their strength.
I also see it this way, 2013 is still two years away, but one should start making the sound now, so that it echoes and gather momentum and good support from others and build a formidable group that could force bernie to share a bigger chunk of revenue with the team.
One day they will learn.
When it comes to money, Bernie will win. Luca has more than met his match.
On a side note, it was nice to see him on BBC when Sir Frank Williams won his award last Sunday.

He does this and the following season the Ferrari F1 car is not up to par, wish he would keep quiet. Are the aero team at Maranello so bad, they can not come up with a decent design?
As for the third car? Not to benefit the main teams? That's complete and utter horse crap.
Yes the rule changes are a pain but they are the same for everyone. Ferrari have some of the best resources available to get around the budget limits etc. Only Mercedes have more of a diverse company structure within which to hide things.
As for going back to the cutting edge and keeping an eye on costs, that is an oxymoron. You can't be bleeding edge without spending lots of money.
I'm beginning to wish he would put all this effort into the team instead of grabbing more newspaper headlines.
He's just looking to make sure he gets his usual payoff from FOM that he gets that nobody else on the grid does.
