Canada: Tiago Monteiro will take the start

Yesterday, Tiago's press agency cast doubt on him taking the start of the Canadian Grand Prix after damaging his neck muscles. We're delighted to tell you the Midland F1 have confirmed that he will take to start at todays race.

The DCA press agency quoted Tiago as saying, "I was a bit worried because over the bumps this morning my neck felt stiff and sore, especially once I got out of the car. I had overstretched the tissues in one of my vertebrae over one of the numerous bumps, but there wasn't much I could do except to take a pain killer. This of course wasn't ideal to maintain my concentration and focus so that I could perform 100% in the car, but after eight laps in the first qualifying session my neck thankfully did not hurt too much."

The Portuguese press seized on this statement and speculated that there was no way that Tiago would be able to start the race, and that reserve driver Giorgio Mondini wold have to take his place.

First thing this morning, we got in touch with the team and asked them for the latest news. "Thanks to our physiotherapist-trainer, Alex Leibinger, he's made a dramatic improvement and will be fit to race today," we were told. Fantastic news!
