MotoGP pilot Max Biaggi tests with Midland today

As I write this several media sources, with either close spies at the Silverstone circuit or in answer to queries, are posting similar stories. The big question in my mind is why a 250cc MotoGP world champion is testing with a Formula One team ?

Our sources at Midland were straight onto us this morning. "First confirmation that Max Biaggi is testing a hybrid EJ15B fitted with the Toyota V8 and the 2006 gearbox," the email read at 08:45 today.

Not long after, F1-Live.com posted a story proclaiming the same details.

For what we've been able to find out, Max will be testing alongside Christijan Albers in a sole EJ15B. He was due to take to the track at the start of the session at 09:00. The weather just a few miles away from the circuit is overcast with light rain, so Max should have an interesting time.

Most media sources are confused over the purpose behind the test with Midland, although most are linking the interest to motorcycle rival Valentino Rossi who has tested with Ferrari. Some have even suggested that Max is a threat to the No.2 seat and Tiago Monteiro !

It is more likely in my opinion that Max could be linked with the third driver vacancy as Nicky Pastorelli appears to have disappeared from the Midland scene completely.

According to a Midland F1 press release published by the team at 09:30 this morning, Max had a seat fitting at the factory yesterday and is thrilled with the opportunity. "I am really excited about driving the Midland F1 car," said the 34 year old in the press release. "I must thank everyone in the team for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to comparing the thrills of MotoGP and F1."
