Force India Intend To Continue Partying

Over the past few weeks, we've seen many signs that the global recession is biting cash-intensive F1. Honda have withdrawn, Toyota are going into austerity measures and the FIA and FOTA have agreed a number of measures intended to cut costs. Strangely but happily, it appears that Force India are not plagued by the same worries.
While other teams have been complaining about having to cut costs due to the global recession, Force India has issued a press release saying that it intends to continue the lavish parties it held in 2008 into the future. It is an interesting statement because it shows that Vijay Mallya is not worried that the economy will affect his ability to run the F1 team. Red Bull are demonstrating that when the economy contracts, it is the publicity and marketing projects that gets toned down or binned first. (Unless you're Honda, then you bin the B-team first, followed by the entire project).
Hopefully this will not distract Force India from improving on the track. However, Jordan showed that it was possible to perform and party at the same time and it would be good to think that was still possible a decade later.

Force India is NOT Jordan - we are way better than Crappy Norton back in Ninety-Ninteen-Nine.

Sunset, Force India is the latest incarnation of the team that began as Jordan. There is nothing wrong with Force India taking the best bits from its predecessors and adding its own improvements.

Unfortunately Sunset, just because there is a new name on the gate doesn't mean that the team should no longer be supported by the fans that have been around a lot longer than you have. The new sign on the door doesn't make any difference to the fact the team is based in England and employs probably 90% + British staff. Pretty much all of the staff stay the same whoever has their name above the door.
I have been a fan of this team from way back when Frentzen and Hill were driving, I continue to support them now. They may have an Indian flavour now but they are still pretty much the same team that they were when they were Jordan, Midland and Spyker. I'm sure the team appreciates all the support it can get whether it be from long term fans that have always supported the team, and also from new fans. I would hazard a guess that if VJ were to sell the team at some stage, it is unlikely that you (Sunset) would support the team any more, whereas us long term supporters still would. Which of those is the best type of fan from a teams point of view? Long term fan or fly by night!

I remember there was one time when I thought that if Eddie Jordan left Jordan that I would no longer support it, for how could Jordan ever be the same without him? Then he left and I realised that the things I liked about the team were not just in him (though he was a clear embodiment of those things) but in the whole workforce, in the whole way the team operated. Switching ownership did not destroy its virtues. Mostly the owner changes altered the context through which they were expressed. Some of the virtues of the new bosses were also picked up by the team - for example it is no coincidence that Jordan became a lot more efficient in how it dealt with garage-side activities under Midland, or that it extended its online media reach under Spyker. As the team has gone through its various phases, picking up different things from the subsequent owners, so it has evolved into the team we see today. And so I came to understand the team more and shed some of the conditionalities my support had previously carried.
The journey to new fan via conditional fan to unconditional fan is a process that cannot be forced (and sometimes goes into reverse when a team behaves contrary to fan expectations), but it does explain why it is possible to get such different views on a subject that bridges different phases of the team like this one.
