Fact: Midland F1 not sold to M-consortium

My eyes widened with surprise this evening when I read a post on our forum telling me that the team had finally been sold to a new owner. Why surprise? Well, the story had only been published by one web F1 news outlet.

F1Racing.net are associated with Midland F1 Racing through a sponsorship deal with Christijan Albers, so it would be fair to assume that they have a good handle on most of the real goings on in the team. Today they published a short article entitled simply "MF1Racing sold".

"Midland F1 Racing has been bought by the M-consortium of Dutchman Michiel Mol, F1Racing.net can reveal," the article reads.

"The deal will most likely be confirmed by the team at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend. It will also be unveiled what the exact role of Spyker is in the new team. Michiel Mol and Midland had been negotiating for months after several setbacks before reaching an agreement just recently. What the team will look like exactly, is still unknown."

I, and other forum visitors, went scouring around the other usual F1 news sources and came up empty on this particular nugget of news. I've speculated on the forum that F1Racing.net were simply trying to get ahead of the game and steal the headlines under the hope that the team will announce something this weekend.

I went and asked our sources in the team to see if there was any truth in what F1Racing.net had said, and honestly expected a confidential reply confirming that some kind of announcement was going to be made this weekend.

"At this moment in time, the team has NOT been sold and remains firmly under Midland's control," we have been told from the Midland F1 Racing camp at Monza this evening. "The bottom line is: we own the team, so we'll decide if and when it gets sold - it's that simple."

'nuff said :o)

The moral of todays story folks - don't believe anything about Midland F1 Racing unless you've read it right here on Midland F1 Online! (oh, and on the official MF1 website as well - sorry MF1 media)
