In the second free practice session for the British Grand Prix, BMW Sauber F1 Team Robert Kubica driver proved the clearly improved competitiveness of the BMW Sauber F1.06. He worked hard, completed a lot of laps and at the end of the day, he was clearly quicker than anybody else.
Just as it was the case in the morning session, Robert executed the major part of the team's preparation for the remainder of the weekend. While the BMW Sauber F1 Team Grand Prix drivers, Jacques Villeneuve and Nick Heidfeld, completed just 13 (Jacques) and 14 laps respectively and set lap times of 1:23.750 and 1:23.895 minutes to finish 18th and 20th, Robert dominated the session right from the start.
The Pole completed five stints and 29 laps respectively and whenever he went out, he took, defended or even extended his lead. Despite focusing on the preparations for the remainder of the weekend, such as set-up or tyre evaluations, he was blinding fast in each of his stints, and at the end of the day, his 1:21.082-minute lap was not only the fastest lap of the session. At the same time, it was the quickest lap of the day and 1:212 seconds faster than the one of the second quickest, Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella.
In tomorrow's third free practice session (09.30hrs BST, 10.30hrs CEST), Jacques and Nick will complete the BMW Sauber F1 Team's preparation for the qualifying session and the race.
