Japanese GP: Friday Practice. Kubica the busiest

In the second free practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, carried out an even more extensive preparation programme than in the morning session. Robert finished 10th, while Nick took 15th position.

As usual, set-up work and tyre evaluations were at the centre of the BMW Sauber F1 Team's work schedule in the second free practice session at the "Fuji Speedway". In warm and summery conditions, with temperatures reaching 27° C, Robert in particular executed an extensive programme. On the way to gathering more valuable data, the Pole was not only the busier of the two BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers but also the busiest of the entire field. He completed a massive 45 laps in six stints - two of them 12 and 14-lap runs. He set a personal best time of 1:20.069 minutes to finish tenth.

With a total of 36 laps, Nick covered nine laps and one stint less than his team-mate but completed a considerable programme, nonetheless. The German took to the track five times and like his team-mate he set his personal best time in the opening stages of one of his two long-runs. At the end of the day, he finished 15th with his 1:20.462-minute lap. The fastest time of the session was set by McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, who lapped the "Fuji Speedway" in 1:18.734 minutes.

In the third practice session, held on Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:00hrs local time (03:00 to 04:00hrs BST), the BMW Sauber F1 Team will complete its preparations for qualifying and the race.
