On 18th March, the BMW Sauber F1 Team will kick-off its second season at the "Albert Park Circuit“ in Melbourne. BMW Sauber F1 have collected several interesting facts for you regarding the Australian Grand Prix.

-For the 12th time the 5.303-kilometre track in the heart of the Australian metropolis of Melbourne will host a Formula One race. During the first edition of this event in 1996, British driver Damon Hill claimed victory.

-Apart from last year, Melbourne always hosted the Formula One season opener, whenever it was part of the calendar. Due to a clash of dates with the Commonwealth Games, Bahrain had the honour of hosting the first GP in 2006.

-The Australian Grand Prix was held in Adelaide until 1995.

-With a population of more than 3.2 million, Melbourne is the second-largest city in Australia. It is located on the South-Eastern coast of the continent and is the capital of the state of Victoria.

-The city has many faces: Modern as well as historical architecture can be found here, student quarters and business districts are in contrast to each other. The Yarra River leads into the ocean, St. Kilda features an exciting beach and nightlife.

-Sports and park facilities are a plenty. The Formula One track leads right through the city centre and through the idyllic Albert Park with the lake of the same name.

-The BMW Sauber F1 Team generally does without its  motorhome during overseas races. The hospitality area is located outdoors.
