'Overtaking could be more difficult in 2007' -Nick

The 2006 season was thrilling and the battle for both titles was taken down to the final round. Nonetheless, both fans and drivers would like to see more overtaking manoeuvres and thereby even better, thrilling, races. However, according to Nick Heidfeld, there won't be much space for improvement

"Overtaking always used to be difficult in Formula One," says the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver, "and I think it's going to remain difficult. There won't be any major rule changes next year, particularly when it comes to the aerodynamics. Therefore, I don't think we are going to see any major changes."

At the same time, the new tyre rules could turn out to be a vital factor next season. Michelin has retired from the pinnacle of motor racing, therefore, all the teams will contest the 2007 season on Bridgestone tyres.

"When you've got different tyres, it's more probable that the cars will take different turns at different speeds," explains Nick. "In consideration of this fact, I expect the overtaking to become slightly more difficult. However, I believe that overtaking is just one of numerous factors that make Formula One that thrilling. In 2006, the battles for the titles and - when it comes to our team - positions in the Constructors' Championship turned out to be extremely close. There was no reason to complain about a lack of excitement."
