BMW Sauber F1 Team test and reserve driver Sebastian Vettel has finished the 2006 Formula 3 Euro Series as runner-up. In the overall classification the German was forced to settle for second position behind Englishman Paul di Resta, who claimed the title at the Hockenheimring last weekend.

Sebastian already had to give up on all titles hopes after the first race. Following a mistake, he dropped back from second to third place. As a consequence, Di Resta was even able to afford finishing outside of the points in tenth position to win the championship. Sebastian's 12th place in the season final on Sunday, therefore, had no effect on the title decision.

"If your goal is to win the championship, a second place is obviously not what you want to achieve," Sebastian said after the event. "I never lost sight of my goal of winning the title. I am a little disappointed. A big thank you to my team for their work during the season. Now I am looking forward to my new job next year."
