Brazil GP.Friday: Vettel 3rd in 2006 last Practice

In the second free practice session for the Brazilian GP, the three BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers completed an extensive preparation programme, with Sebastian Vettel (1:12.870 minutes) setting the third fastest time. Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld added another 28 laps to the team's tally.

Sebastian again demonstrated his talent and the competitiveness of the BMW Sauber F1.06. The 19-year-old was extremely busy working on the set-up and continuing the tyre evaluations. Over the course of his four stints, he completed a total of 33 laps, thus being the second busiest driver of the session behind Honda test driver Anthony Davidson. For the major part of the session, Sebastian even held the lead, and only in the closing stages he was passed by Williams test driver Alexander Wurz (1.12.547 minutes) and Davidson (1.12.653).

During his final outing, Sebastian delivered a premiere: For the first time in his still short Formula One career he spun. "Yes, I spun while exiting turn six", he admitted. "I hope they didn't show it on TV. After all, it was harmless."

Both Robert and Nick completed two stints, with Robert (15 laps) covering a slightly bigger mileage than his team-mate and also being fractions faster. The Pole set a personal fastest lap time of 1:14.510 minutes to finish 16th, while Nick (1:14.793 minutes) had to settle for 18th place.

In the third free practice session held on Saturday from 11:00hrs local time (15:00hrs BST), Robert and Nick will continue the team's preparations for the remainder of the weekend.
