A good cooperation between the drivers and their race engineers is a crucial factor to achieve the best possible results in Formula One. Find out what Nick Heidfeld thinks about his engineer Andy Borme.
Borne comes from the US racing scene. 2006 is his first Formula One season, and he has managed to acclimatise quickly. Nick says: "Generally, he is a relaxed guy who can be a little fidgety. However, he is not rushed to any premature decisions under pressure. I get along with him very well. We're about one hundred people in the team but he is my first contact person in nearly all situations."
It takes a while for a relationship like this to evolve. "Because every human being is different", says Nick. "Andy is also the one person I am in radio contact with throughout the race. Different drivers expect different approaches here as well. Some drivers want to be constantly pushed and cheered along and require all kinds of information. I prefer to receive information on only the most important facts. I already drive as quickly as possible anyway."
