Jacques is out of BMWSauberF1 Team

After being replaced by rookie Robert Kubica for the Hungarian GP after a heavy shunt in the German GP that left him unable to drive...He and the Team have terminated their partnership with immediate affect.

 

           BMW Sauber F1 Team and Jacques Villeneuve   part company by mutual consent. Hinwil, 7 August 2006. Jacques Villeneuve will not be racing with the BMW Sauber F1 Team for the remainder of the 2006 F1 season. Following discussions last week, Jacques Villeneuve and the BMW Sauber F1 Team agreed to terminate their current contract with immediate effect five races ahead of schedule.   BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen: “Jacques has performed well for us this year, scoring the Team’s first grand prix points in Malaysia, He has made a significant contribution to developing the newly formed BMW Sauber F1 Team and the performance of the car. However, after Jacques’ accident in the Hockenheim race the team decided to review its options for next year, including assessing Robert Kubica in a race environment. Our decision to look towards evaluating our driver line up has naturally impacted Jacques’ position for the remainder of this season. We fully understand that it is difficult for Jacques to maintain his natural level of commitment in circumstances of uncertainty. We respect his position and wish him well for the future.”     BMW Sauber F1 Team und Villeneuve trennen sich in gegenseitigem Einvernehmen.   Hinwil, 7. August 2006. Jacques Villeneuve wird in den verbleibenden Saisonrennen nicht mehr für das BMW Sauber F1 Team starten. Nach Gesprächen in der Vorwoche haben sich der Kanadier und das Team fünf Rennen vor Saisonende auf eine sofortige Vertragsauflösung geeinigt.   BMW Motorsport Direktor Mario Theissen: „Jacques hat in diesem Jahr gute Leistungen gezeigt und für unser Team in Malaysia die ersten WM-Punkte geholt. Er hat einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Entwicklung des neuen BMW Sauber F1 Teams und des Fahrzeugs geleistet. Das Team ist dabei, die Optionen für das nächste Jahr zu prüfen und hat nach Jacques’ Unfall in Hockenheim entschieden, Robert Kubica im Renneinsatz beobachten zu wollen. Dies hat natürlich auch Einfluss auf Jacques’ Position für den Rest der Saison. Wir haben volles Verständnis dafür, dass es für Jacques schwierig ist, in dieser ungewissen Situation sein Engagement aufrechtzuerhalten. Wir respektieren seine Entscheidung und wünschen ihm alles Gute für seine Zukunft.“
