Giancarlo Fisichella drove a perfect race from start to finish to win the Malaysain grand prix. The race could have been any better as Fernando Alonso Finished second on the podium giving Renault its first 1-2 in over 20 years

A brilliant weekend for Itallain Giancarlo Fisichella as he got his third grand prix victory of his career. The speedy roman had a perfect weekend with taking pole position, leading most of the race, beating his team mate and finally crossing the finish line first.

The race began brillantly for the defending champions, the lights went out and the renault of Fisichella easily made it into the first corner first, mean while Fernando Alonso made up 5 positions in the first corner and jumped up to third pace ahead of both williams and Mclarens.

From then on Fisichella had full control of the race and was able to take advantage of his light speedy R26 pulling away from the Honda of Jenson Button. Alonso managed to Jump the Honda in the pits because of the spaniards heavy fuel load.

Renault dominated leading all the laps in the race except one, when Jenson Button took the lead while Fisico was in the pits.

The Day belonged to Fisichella and he made it the 2 out of 2 for the Renault Team this season.

"It was a perfect race, a tough one physically and mentally, but honestly I was quite confident and comfortable, the car balance was perfect," Fisichella said. "It was great to have my engineer on the podium with me and would like to thank all the team guys. It's an emotional weekend for me because I lost my friend a week ago and I'd like to dedicate this race to him."

"It was very hot in the cockpit, already in the middle of the race you're tired and think you can't make it but it's important to concentrate and keep pushing," he summed up.
