Renault are confident that their Fellow French company Michelin that supplied their team with tyres for their double world championship success in 2005 will still hold their advantage going into next seasons campaign
The French tyre supplier to Renault, Michelin dominated the 2005 season with winning all the race on the calander except for one which was the farce of the of USA grand prix where Michelin made a mistake and no Michelin runner in the field took part. Renaults technical director Bob Bell thinks that the company will hold on to their advantage over their Japanese rivals Bridgestone even though Bridgestone will have 2 more top running teams next season in the way of Toyota and Williams.
"There is a simple truth in F1: you never un-invent technology," said Bob Bell Renault's technical director. "Michelin made significant progress under the longer life tyre rules in 2005 - and also in the area of wet tyres, as we saw in Spa - and those gains will have direct benefits for next year."
"We have every confidence that Michelin have the ability to develop winning tyres for 2006, and it is our responsibility, with the other teams, to ensure that happens," he added. "For us at Renault, it is a very important objective to finish 2006 saying that Michelin tyres were the best we have ever had."
