The Renault F1 team had a difficult day today at the qualifying session at the US Grand Prix. The team had shown during the whole weekend difficulties to be among the top 5 of the times and the qualifying has shown the weaknesses of the R24 and the RS24.
The session was dominated once again by Ferrari though this time it was Rubens Barrichello who for the first time this season edged his teammate Michael Schumacher who finished second less than 0.2 seconds behind Barrichello.
Third on the grid will be the BAR Honda of Takuma Sato that once again edged his teammate who finished 4th.
Montoya and Ralf Schumacher will have the third row edging Raikkonen and Panis who will start on the fourth row.
Alonso, on his Renault R24 finished 9th in front of the Jaguar of Mark Webber.
Jarno Trulli experienced some gear box problems and after being helped out of the pits by his mechanics returned to the pits without completing his flying lap.
It will be a hard race tomorrow at Indianapolis and the team will have to fight hard to maintain his second place on the Constructor's Championship standings.
Alonso, on Spanish TV, was sattisfied of his lap and tbought that some drivers in front of him could be in a different strategy.
