The qualifying session for both drivers was less than good. Jarno Trulli finished 7th after some possible problems with the rear wing. His teammate also encountered problems and went off twice and finished 17th.

Alonso was interviewed after the session and he complained of front brake problems on his car that prevented him from being competitive.

The session was once again dominated by Ferrari who finished 1st and 2nd. Michael Schumacher achieved the pole with a best time of 1.30.139. Rubens Barrichello finished second less than 0.4 seconds behind his teammate.

Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher filled the second row followed by the BARs of Takuma Sato and Jenson Button.

McLaren continues with his lack of form with David Coulthard finishing 10th and Kimi Raikkonen not setting a time after an engine change that would have placed him 10 places back.
