A dream of a year for Alonso!

The season 2003 will be one difficult to forget for Spanish Driver Fernando Alonso. At the start of the season very few in the paddock would have pinpointed the Spaniard as one of the key players of this year Formula 1 season.

As a matter of fact, when the prestigious magazine Autosport made his preview issue on 2003 Alonso was not among the drivers that appeared on the front cover.

The Spaniard started the year scoring his first points at the Autralian Grand Prix by finishing 7th. A bad timing on his pit entry prevented him from finishing higher in that race.

He was able, however, to compensate on the next race at Malaysia by setting the pole and finishing on podium for the first time on his career. He broke records by being the youngest driver set a pole and finish on a podium.

He was back on the podium on the next race on Brazil after an accident when he hit the debris left by mark Webber’s car.

Alonso was able to shock the Formula 1 paddock again by finishing second at the Spanish Grand Prix just behind the new Ferrari 2003-GA of Michael Schumacher.

He continued to score points in every race he finished and in August he was able to visit the podium again but this time on the top step. He brilliantly won the Hungarian GP in a race that he started from pole and led in all but one lap. It was going to be his best result so far in a season that has proven to be a dream:

“This year has been a dream for me and the best is that people have been really behind me and that has given me extra strength and the desire to improve in each race. The team has worked very hard to arrive here and I know that after Japan we have to think in the future and right now my future is in Renault”. Said the Spaniard. “ It is true that there has been decisions from the team that I have not understood well, mainly in the last races, like with the engine for the quickest on Friday, but we have talked at length and things will change for next year.” He added trying to end speculations of his discussions with the team.
