Alonso: To win now not possible!

In an interview with the Sport newspaper”El Mundo Deportivo” Spanish F1 driver Fernando Alonso declared that top win at the present time does not look possible.

Alonso however is ready to take advantage of the first chance he has to win a race.

“Is something I do not think at the present time, but I also did not think to that I could have as many points at this time of the season as I have.”
Fernando Alonso is 3rd on the Drivers Championship behind leader Raikkonen and defending champion Michael Schumacher.
“If I have to be honest I would say that to win is not possible. But it also was not possible to finish second at Barcelona. And if Schumacher would have had a problem with his car…if I have a chance I will take advantage of it.”
Alonso knows perfectly well the limitations of his car and knows that the engine is still lacking some power. However, Renault will bring a new spec engine for Austria that will increase the power by 20 extra bhp.
“The power injection will be quite good for a track like the Austrian. I think we will struggle in both Austria and Montreal. However, Monaco, Hungary and France I think we will have many chances, and maybe also in Suzuka.”
Some fans in Spain are comparing Alonso to (bike driver) Angel Nieto or (cyclist) Miguel Indurain. Alonso mania is high at the present time in Spain and the hype is growing in every race. Alonso wants to note that he has a long road to be as successful as Nieto or Indurain.
“Both have been everything in sport. The have an exceptional curriculum, with victories and titles. I have not done anything yet, I have not won yet anything.”
“In Barcelona, more than anything I have won the respect of the F1 world and also all this popularity. Sometimes is a bit overwhelming, but is the result of what we are achieving and we have to accept. I want to thanks the fans for their support.”
